What makes it special? This 2010 50 Naira was issued to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Nigeria's independence. This is one of two major commemorative notes issued by Nigeria, with the other being a 100 Naira note issued in 2014 to celebrate the centennial of the unification of Nigeria, which was formed from two former British protectorates.

Did you know? Nigeria celebrates its independence on October 1. The front of this note shows three men who represent the country's largest ethnic groups, the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba, who together make up about two-thirds of the population. The woman represents the country's ethnically diverse Middle Belt.
