What makes it special? April 22 is Earth Day, a time when many people put a focus on conservation efforts. South Africa helps promote biodiversity with its network of reserves, including Kruger National Park, home to thousands of elephants. The ban on ivory has helped African elephant populations, but they remain endangered.

Did you know? One of the interesting aspects about vintage banknotes is they can capture a sense of what is deemed important at the time. A century ago, this Belgian Congo note showed elephant tusks on its front.
