Denomination: 1,000 Gulden

What makes it special? International Translation Day is celebrated on September 30. The back of this note has text in four different languages: Chinese, Javanese, Arabic and Dutch.

Did you know? After World War II, the Netherlands Indies became the independent nation of Indonesia, but it retains a complex network of languages. The national language is Indonesian, which borrows from Javanese and other regional languages, as well as from Dutch, Arabic, English and others. Additionally, immigrants from China have lived in what is today Indonesia for centuries.
