PMG's Featured Note of the Month: Fiji 2,000 Dollars

Of 2,000 notes printed, 1,900 were returned to the Fiji Reserve Bank. The remaining 100 notes remain in collectors' hands.

Varieties: There are no issued varieties for this issue. This was a commemorative only release. This note never circulated.

Why is it interesting now? On August 23, 1966, the first photo of the Earth was taken from NASA’s Lunar Orbiter 1 – as seen from orbit. The original photos were never discovered. It wasn’t until 2008 that the pictures were restored.

Did you know? There were only 2,000 of these notes printed (serial number 1 through 2000), but only 100 remain. The remaining unsold 1,900 notes were returned to the bank. The whereabouts of these 1,900 notes are unknown.

Sales highlights: In September 2019, a PMG 66 sold at a Heritage Auctions for $2,640 including the buyer’s premium.
