PMG Registry Featured Set: Queen Elizabeth II Portraits

Posted on 3/21/2023

Showing the evolving face of British currency over several decades, this month’s featured set belongs to Lamb7.

This month, we continue featuring 2022 PMG Registry Award-winning sets. Check out this Best World Set winner, English Paper Money QEII, by Lamb7, found here.

In September of 2022, we featured a Bank of Canada Queen Elizabeth II set here and mentioned that Lamb7’s Great Britain Queen Elizabeth II set was on the rise. In Canada, the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II first appeared on a banknote in 1935. In Great Britain, however, she did not appear until 1960, on a £1 note. Lamb7 has a lovely example of an early replacement note, below.

In 1990, the Bank of England incorporated a portrait of a more mature Queen at age 64; this same portrait appears on the most recent polymer notes that originated in 2016. Lamb7 presents a colorful and nearly flawless example, shown below.
