PMG Registry Featured Set: Fractional Currency

Many of us have heard the quote: “Find joy in the little things in life.” Collectors of Fractional Currency, the smallest-denomination notes in US history, would agree.

Fractional Currency made its debut back in 1862 as the result of a coin shortage amid the Civil War. These notes were printed in denominations from 3 Cents to 50 Cents and had five issues. Featuring a variety of designs, these notes are colorful and unique, making them attractive for many US paper money collectors.

The PMG Registry Fractional Currency, Complete Type Set requires an example of each denomination note for all five issues, which is 20 notes total. With 67 participants, this category is the most popular of all the fractional set types in the PMG Registry. Currently sitting in first place with this set, Los Gatos Collection is obviously passionate about all things fractional. Started only in January 2022 and commanding over 42,000 PMG Registry points, this set is a true pleasure to view. This collection is a compilation of high-quality examples of all 20 notes, most graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated or higher, and many are top pops. The set owner offers personal and thoughtful comments about each note.
