High-grade $2 Treasury Note Certified by PMG in Stack’s Bowers Sale

The 1890 $2 Treasury Note expected to sell for at least $50,000 is among over 450 PMG-graded notes in the April auction.

More than 450 rare vintageUS banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are being offered in Stack’s Bowers Spring 2022 Auction – Session 7. Online bidding is already underway for the sale, which concludes April 7, 2022

The top PMG-certified lot is an 1890 $2 Treasury Note graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 20148), with an estimate of $50,000 to $75,000. It shows James McPherson, a highly regarded Union general who died in the Civil War. It is one of three examples of this catalog number to share the highest grade in the PMG Population Report.

Another fascinating lot in the auction is a PMG-certified 1935A $1 Silver Certificate with a Mismatched Serial Number Error. This error note is encapsulated with another PMG-certified 1935A $1 Silver Certificate that shares the same serial number as the one printed on the right side of the error note.   • a Confederate States of America 1861 $500 graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 20036), with an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000
  • an 1880 $50 Silver Certificate graded PMG 20 Very Fine (lot 20146), with an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000
  • a 1933 $10 Silver Certificate graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 20225), with an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000
  • a 2003 $2 Federal Reserve Note (Richmond) graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 20234), with an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000
  • an 1862 $5 Legal Tender graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 20071), with an estimate of $15,000 to $25,000
  • a 1928 $500 Federal Reserve Note (Minneapolis) graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 20250), with an estimate of $15,000 to $25,000
  • a 1934 $1,000 Federal Reserve Note (Chicago) graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 20276), with an estimate of $15,000 to $25,000
  • a 1928 $500 Gold Certificate graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine EPQ (lot 20308), with an estimate of $15,000 to $25,000
  • a White Plains, New York 1902 $10 National Bank Note graded PMG 20 Very Fine (lot 20469), with an estimate of $15,000 to $25,000
