Greek Auction Offers Hundreds of PMG-certified Notes from Dozens of Countries

The Karamitsos sale in March features more than 400 PMG-certified notes.

Banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) from dozens of countries are featured in A. Karamitsos’s Auction 986 Part A and Part B. Online bidding is already underway for the sale and concludes March 12-13, 2022.

Most of the notes in the auction are from Greece. A highlight is a Greece 1943 500,000 Drachmai Agricultural Treasury Bond graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine (lot 6738). The note, issued during a time of rapid inflation during World War II, has a starting price of €1,500 (about $1,700).

Another highlight in the sale is a German East Africa 1905 100 Rupien graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated (lot 7447), with a starting price of €1,500 (about $1,700). The note, featuring a portrait of Kaiser Wilhelm II, was the currency of German East Africa from 1890 to 1916 and continued to circulate in the region until 1920.

Other PMG-certified highlights of the auction include:

  • a United States 1934 $1,000 Federal Reserve Note (Chicago) graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine (lot 7573), with a starting price of €1,500 (about $1,700)
  • a Greece, Bank of Greece 1947 10,000 Drachmai graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 6640), with a starting price of €900 (about $1,000)
  • a Cyprus / British Administration 1939-50 5/- Shillings graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 6784), with a starting price of €850 (about $970)
  • a Greece, Bank of Greece 1947 5,000 Drachmai graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 6637), with a starting price of €700 (about $800)
  • a Greece / Italian Occupation – World War II ND (1941) 10,000 Drachmai graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 6774), with a starting price of €550 (about $625)
  • a Bermuda / British Administration 1970 10 Dollars graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 7540), with a starting price of €250 (about $285)
  • a European Union / France 2019 100 Euro graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 7269), with a starting price of €130 (about $150)
  • a Luxembourg 1956 100 Francs graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 7320), with a starting price of €100 (about $115)
  • a Turkey, Banque Imperiale Ottomane 1876-78/AH1293 100 Kurush graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 7372), with a starting price of €90 (about $100)
