PMG-graded US Treasury Note Likely to Realize Six Figures in November Sale

Over 220 pieces of US currency certified by PMG are featured in a Stack's Bowers auction.

A rare US Treasury Note certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) is the top lot in the Baltimore Auction of US Currency presented by Stack’s Bowers. Online bidding for over 220 PMG-certified banknotes is currently underway with the sale ending on November 22, 2021.

The 1890 $20 Treasury Note graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Unc EPQ (lot 20056) features prominent designs, including a red scalloped seal and a star at the end of red serial numbers, which is popular among collectors. This example is one of the two finest among dozens graded in the PMG Population Report and has an estimate of $100,000 to $150,000.

The front features John Marshall, who served as 4th Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court in 1801 until his death in 1835. His portrait is displayed on the 1890 and 1891 Treasury Notes as well as the 1918 $500 Federal Reserve Notes.

  • an 1886 $5 Silver Certificate graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 20043), which has an estimate of $30,000 to $50,000
  • a 1915 $20 Federal Reserve Bank Note (Dallas) graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 20062), which has an estimate of $30,000 to $50,000
  • an 1896 $2 Silver Certificate graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Unc EPQ (lot 20041), which has an estimate of $25,000 to $35,000
  • an 1891 $20 Silver Certificate graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 20049), which has an estimate of $25,000 to $35,000
  • an 1862 $2 Legal Tender graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 20021), which has an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000
