PMG-graded Rare Notes from China Featured in July Spink Sale

The PMG-certified rarities include an iconic design and a Hong Kong error note.

Hundreds of banknotes from Asia that are certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are being offered in a series of Spink China numismatic auctions this month. Online bidding is already underway for session 66 ending July 11; session 67A ending July 12; and session 67B ending July 13, 2021.

The top banknote in all of the sales is a China, People's Republic 1953 10 Yuan graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine (session 66, lot 523). This iconic design from the early years of the People's Republic of China has an estimate of HK$120,000 to HK$180,000 (about $15,400 to $23,200 USD).

The sale also features a valuable error note: a Hong Kong, Chartered Bank ND (1970-75) 100 Dollars with a Mismatched Serial Number Error graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (session 66, lot 198). This note has an estimate of HK$30,000 to $HK50,000 (about $3,900 to $6,400 USD)

  • a Hong Kong, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. 1941-55 100 Dollars graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (session 66, lot 248) with an estimate of HK$50,000 to HK$75,000 (about $6,400 to $9,700 USD)
  • a Hong Kong, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. 1977 1,000 Dollars graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (session 66, lot 261) with an estimate of HK$40,000 to HK$60,000 (about $5,100 to $7,700 USD)
