PMG-graded Malaysian Banknote with Serial Number 1 Stars in Trigometric Sale

Posted on 3/16/2021

The fancy serial number on the commemorative Malaysian banknote makes it the top lot in the March auction.

One of the most respected numismatic firms in Malaysia, Trigometric has announced its latest auction of world coins and banknotes, divided into two sessions. Session 1 features dozens of coins graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) and banknotes graded by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®). Session 2 highlights rare Malaysian banknotes graded by PMG. Bidding is already underway for the sessions on March 27-28 (Malaysian time).

PMG-graded banknotes are the top lots in both sessions, but a Malaysia, Bank Negara 2007 50 Ringgit graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ with Serial Number 1 (lot 837) has the highest estimate in the entire auction series. Only 20,000 of these notes were issued, and the low serial number makes this note particularly desirable. Featured in Session 2, it has an estimate of RM200,000 to RM300,000 (about $48,500 to $72,700 USD).
