PMG Attributing Lebanese Banknotes According to a New Comprehensive Book

Posted on 2/2/2021

The catalog, written by Ali Chour, is an authoritative reference on paper money from Lebanon.

Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) is now attributing banknotes from Lebanon according to the catalog numbers in the Professional Catalogue of Lebanese Banknotes by Ali Chour.

The new catalog includes all Lebanese banknotes from 1919 to 2020, a period that covers the Middle Eastern country’s emergence from World War I and time under French control through it becoming an independent republic. The book includes a catalog number for each note type, as well as illustrations with authoritative descriptions.

Lebanon has produced a fascinating assortment of banknotes over the years, including modern commemoratives. These are all described in comprehensive detail in the book.

The catalog number is a key part of the PMG label, and serves as a universally accepted shorthand for describing a note. In cases where exceptional research catalogs are available for a specific region or type of currency, PMG will supplement the general use of Pick or Friedberg catalog numbers with other catalog numbers — such as those found in the Professional Catalogue of Lebanese Banknotes — to fully identify and attribute banknotes.

“PMG is pleased that our comprehensive collection of numismatic research now includes this definitive work on Lebanese banknotes,” said Chad Hawk, PMG Grading Finalizer. “This authoritative book will help our grading team deliver a better service to our customers."
