PMG-certified Notes Achieve Top Results at Spink Auction

The top lot in this Spink auction was a PMG-certified Hong Kong $10 note, which realized HK$696,000.

World banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) drew the highest bids at the Spink Numismatic Collectors' Series Sale held May 10-11, 2020, in Hong Kong, China.

The top note in the sale was a very rare Hong Kong 1905-10 10 Dollars graded PMG 20 Very Fine that realized HK$696,000 (about $89,800 USD). It is the earliest date of this type and one of only three known notes.

Another highlight of the sale was a Hong Kong 1912 500 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine that realized HK$600,000 (about $74,400 USD). This first date of issue note is highly sought after due to its geometric design at the center of the note (commonly referred to as the “Spider Web”).
