NGC-certified Coins and PMG-certified Notes Highlight March Polish Auction

Posted on 2/26/2020

Antykwariat Numizmatyczny is offering many European rarities certified by NGC and PMG in its March sale.

Poland’s largest auction house, Antykwariat Numizmatyczny, will offer numerous European rarities certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) and Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) in a three-day online sale, being held March 14-16, 2020.

Among the coins offered is a Poland 1637 II Ducat graded NGC MS 62 with a starting bid of 35,000 PLN (about $8,800 USD). Ducats from 1637 are known in two types. This is the highest-graded example of the second type, which features Wladyslaw IV, King of Poland from 1632 until 1648, wearing a crown and armor. On the reverse, an angel holds an oval cartouche with the city of Toruń’s coat of arms.

Toruń, where this coin was minted, is one of the oldest cities in Poland. While the city itself is known for its beauty, it is not known for producing beautiful coins. Rather, Toruń coins were often minted carelessly, so that well-preserved examples like this one are very rare.
