Apollo 11 US Currency Set: Special PMG Label Available

Posted on 7/12/2019

A special label is being offered by PMG to commemorate the notes that celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. Special submission instructions must be followed. See the "Submission Instructions" section of this article.

Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) is offering a special label for the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Currency Set that the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is issuing to celebrate the mission that included mankind's first steps on the moon.

The Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Currency Set features a Series 2013 $50 Federal Reserve Note that begins with the serial number 1969, the year of the historic trip to the moon. The currency set goes on sale on July 16, 2019 — exactly 50 years after the Apollo 11 mission launched — and is limited to 5,300 sets.

Apollo 11 fulfilled a challenge made by President Kennedy in 1961 that, "before this decade is out," the US should achieve the goal of "landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth." The front of the $50 bill features President Grant, while the back features the US Capitol, where Kennedy issued his famous challenge in an address to Congress.

A special PMG label that benefits the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) is available to celebrate these notes. The label is available by request for an additional $5 fee. A royalty will be paid to the ASF by PMG for each label used. Each year, ASF provides dozens of scholarships to outstanding college students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Submission Instructions

  • Submit notes from the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Currency Set in their original mint packaging under the Modern grading tier or higher.
  • Write "ASF Label #0130" (+$5 per note) in bold letters on the PMG Submission Form to request this special label. These notes must be submitted on a separate PMG Submission Form to receive the special label. (If no eligible special label is requested, the standard PMG Standard Green Label will be used.)
  • Notes received by PMG within 30 days of release are eligible for the “Early Releases” or “First Releases” special designations. There is an additional fee of $10 (USD) per note for the special designation verification and attribution. If you would like the Early Releases or First Releases designation, select the appropriate box on the submission form. Submissions must be received by PMG on or before Thursday, August 15, 2019 to be eligible for the Early Releases and First Releases designations.
  • If you would like the original packaging returned, select “Return Packaging” on the PMG Submission Form. If Return Packaging is selected, there will be an additional fee of $5 (USD) per invoice, as well as an additional shipping cost, depending on the weight of the packaging.
