PMG Attributing New Variety of China 1980 5 Yuan Notes

Posted on 4/25/2018

Under ultraviolet light, a fluorescent pattern on the crane, pines and flower can be seen.

Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) is now attributing a new variety of China's 1980 5 Yuan note.

Attributed as 886f, the front of these notes exhibits a “green fluorescence” under ultraviolet light on the crane, pines and flower. (The “f” stands for fluorescence.)

The fluorescence can be observed under UV light on the front of the 1980 5 Yuan note at right.

These fluorescent properties have also been observed on replacement notes, which will be attributed as 886f*.

These varieties will be attributed automatically for no additional fee for eligible notes.

The "Verdant Pines & Crane" pedigree is the only additional notation that will be used with Pick 886f and Pick 886f*. It is used exclusively for submissions from a specific PMG Authorized Dealer.

No additional attributions or special pedigrees will be accepted for this variety.

This new variety follows PMG’s decision to attribute other Chinese fluorescent varieties, including:

  • the Pick 885af 1980 2 Yuan variety (and 885af* for replacements). To read more, click here.
  • the Pick 884bf 1980 1 Yuan variety (and 884bf* for replacements). To read more, click here.
  • the Pick 885bf 1990 2 Yuan variety (and 885bf* for replacements). To read more, click here.

Please note that recognition and attribution of varieties is solely at PMG's discretion.
