PMG Designations for the New Five Pound Note

Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) will offer release designations for the new highly anticipated 2016 Bank of England 5 Pound note which is scheduled to be released on September 13, 2016.

The first polymer (thin, flexible plastic material) note issued by the Bank of England, it features Sir Winston Churchill, who replaces Elizabeth Fry who appears on the current notes. The new note is slightly smaller at 125mm x 65mm versus 135mm x 70mm and is said to be cleaner, safer and stronger. The current £5 notes will be withdrawn from circulation in May 2017.

2016 Bank of England 5 Pound notes purchased on the first day of release (September 13) and submitted to PMG on that same day are eligible for PMG’s “First Day of Issue” designation. The notes must arrive at PMG within three business days in a sealed shipping box bearing the September 13 postmark date. Notes with this special designation are listed separately in the Population Report.

PMG will also offer its popular “Early Releases” and “First Releases” designations for 2016 Bank of England 5 Pound notes received by PMG within 30 days of the note’s release (September 13). The cutoff dates for Early Releases and First Releases is Thursday, October 13. “Early Releases” and “First Releases” are used interchangeably and either designation may be requested by the submitter for qualifying notes. Notes with these designations are listed separately in PMG’s Population Report.

“First Day of Issue” Submission Instructions:

• To qualify for “First Day of Issue” notes must be shipped to PMG in a box bearing the September 13 postmark and arrive at our US office within 3 business days.
• Write “First Day of Issue” in bold letters on the PMG Submission Form.
• There is a minimum submission requirement of 25 notes for this designation.
• An additional fee of $10 per note will apply for the special designation verification and attribution.
• If you would like the original packaging returned, select or write “Return Packaging” in bold letters on the PMG Submission Form. There will be an additional $3 fee per invoice if return packaging in selected.

“Early Releases” and “First Releases” Submission Instructions:

• To qualify for Early Releases or First Releases notes must be received at a PMG office by Thursday, October, 13, 2016.
• Write either “Early Releases” or “First Releases” in bold letters on the PMG Submission Form.
• Notes for these designations must be submitted on separate submission forms. Do not mix Early Releases and First Releases on the same submission form.
• Submit the notes under any applicable PMG grading tier. There is an additional $5 fee for the Early Releases or First Releases designation verification and attribution.
• If you would like the original packaging returned, select or write “Return Packaging” in bold letters on the PMG Submission Form. There will be an additional $3 fee per invoice if return packaging in selected.
