Dutch Rarity Among More Than 1,000 PMG-certified Notes in September Auction
Posted on 8/25/2026
Some banknotes tell a story about a country. A striking example of Dutch paper money from a series that was first issued in the early 1970s has a fascinating story to share in the Crown Currency Live Auction 58, for which bidding is already underway. It is among more than 1,000 notes certified by PMG® in the sale, which concludes on September 10, 2026.
Among the auction's top notes is a Netherlands 1972 Nederlandsche Bank 1,000 Gulden graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 651). This striking example of Dutch currency from the final decades of the guilder era represented a substantial sum at the time and was primarily intended for larger transactions and financial use rather than everyday purchases. As one of the higher-denomination notes of the period, examples from the 1972 series offer collectors a fascinating look at the Netherlands’ monetary history. There are currently 370 examples of this note in the PMG Population Report with only a handful graded higher.
