Trigometric Offers Impressive Group of PMG-certified Progressive Proofs

The six rarities, which shed light on the design process of Malaysian banknotes, are offered in an auction on August 29.

A lot that offers a rare window into the design and printing process of Malaysian banknotes is part of an upcoming auction. Online bidding is already underway for hundreds of notes certified by PMG® and dozens of coins certified by NGC® that are offered in the Trigometric August 2026 Auction on August 29, 2026.

Leading the bidding for PMG notes is a group of six Malaysia ND (1989) 100 Ringgit Progressive Proofs graded by PMG (lot 1173), with an estimate of RM44,000 to RM75,000 (about $10,000 to $18,000). The set includes a Progressive Proof graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated, a Back Progressive Proof graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated, a Back Progressive Proof graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ, a Back Progressive Proof graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ, a Front Progressive Proof graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ, and a Front Progressive Proof graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ.

A Proof is a complete plate design printed on non-issued paper as a preparatory stage before a note is approved for production, while a Progressive Proof is a partial intaglio or lithographic print created during the developmental stages leading up to the final Proof. Progressive Proofs show portions of the design as they are developed toward completion and may differ in paper or color from the final or issued note.

  • a Malaysia, Bank Negara 2007 50 Ringgit Commemorative graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1158), with an estimate of RM10,000 to RM20,000 (about $2,400 to $4,700)
