Hosane Offers High-grade Chinese Rarity Certified by PMG

The highest denomination of its series and unsurpassed in grade, the note is being offered in a sale in China in May.

Hosane is offering dozens of rare Chinese notes certified by PMG®, including one from the early years of the People's Republic of China that is a "Top Pop" unsurpassed in grade. The Hosane paper money auction will be held in Shanghai on May 12, 2026.

The top PMG-certified note in the auction is a China / People's Republic 1953 10 Yuan graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 4488), with a starting price of 2,000,000 RMB (about $293,000). This large-format note was the highest denomination of the Second Series of the Renminbi, issued starting in the mid-1950s. Nearly 1,000 issued examples are listed in the PMG Population Report for this catalog number, but none are graded higher than this example.

Other PMG-certified highlights in the auction include:

  • a 100-note pack of China 2024 Year of the Dragon 20 Yuan notes graded PMG 68 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 4524), with a starting price of 650,000 RMB (about $95,000)
  • a China / People's Republic 1953 3 Yuan graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 4483), with a starting price of 280,000 RMB (about $41,000)
  • a 100-note pack of China 2025 Year of the Snake 20 Yuan notes graded PMG 68 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 4528), with a starting price of 180,000 RMB (about $26,000)
  • a China / People's Republic 1953 5 Yuan graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 4484), with a starting price of 80,000 RMB (about $12,000)
