Straits Settlements Proofs and Other PMG-certified Rarities Offered in Unique Auction
Posted on 3/24/2026
A very rare Straits Settlements Proof is among dozens of PMG-certified notes being offered in an ongoing Unique auction. Online bidding is already underway for the Malaysia World Coin Auction, which is set to end on March 28, 2026.
Leading the PMG-certified notes is a Straits Settlements 1886-88 5 Dollars Proof graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine (lot 620318), which has an estimate of RM100,000 to RM200,000 (about $25,000 to $51,000). While other 1886-88 denominations have made their way to auction before, the 5 Dollars note seen here is incredibly scarce. This Chartered Mercantile Bank of India, London and China note includes the word SINGAPORE, which was part of the British colony of the Straits Settlements at the time.
