Stack's Bowers Galleries Offers Exceptional PMG-certified Palestine Currency Board Rarities
Posted on 4/16/2026
A stunning group of Palestine Currency Board banknotes that are part of the Olive Sprig Collection and certified by PMG® are being offered in an upcoming Stack's Bowers Galleries auction. Online bidding is already underway for the Spring 2026 Maastricht Showcase Auction - Session 1, which concludes on May 6, 2026.
The top lot in the auction is a Palestine, Currency Board 1927 £100 graded PMG 15 Choice Fine (lot 50063), with an estimate of $175,000 to $250,000. One of the key pieces from the Olive Sprig Collection, the coveted Prefix A 1927 £100 note was shockingly found in a donation to an Oxfam charity store in eastern England in 2020. This rarity is an iconic world banknote and has been a note that often eludes even the most advanced collectors. This particular note is only the fourth known example of the coveted denomination in private hands today and the only one in the PMG Population Report.
Another highlight of the auction is a Palestine, Currency Board 1929 £50 graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 50062), with an estimate of $100,000 to $150,000. This is another rare Palestine Mandate note that is hard to come by since there are only around 35 £50 notes with various dates that are known to exist today. Rarely seen at public auction, there are only eight issued examples of this date in the PMG Population Report, with only three examples graded higher than this particular note.
The Olive Sprig Collection of Palestine Currency Board notes is appropriately named, not only for its connections to the olive-growing region but as a reflection of the olive watermark that is found on each issue. Acquired over several decades, this superb group of notes is arguably the most complete collection of Palestine Mandate banknotes to ever be sold at auction. Many key issues are represented among the 63-note collection that includes almost all prefixes in the series, with only four prefixes missing. Many of the notes found in this collection are among the most sought after and widely collected paper money in all of Middle Eastern numismatics.
Other PMG-certified notes in the collection include:
