PMG-certified Hong Kong Specimen Realizes More than $50,000 in Spink Sale

Hong Kong rarities certified by PMG® led the way in a recent auction, with eight notes realizing more than $10,000 each. Spink's CSS125A - A Choice Collection of Hong Kong Banknotes was held on March 15, 2026.
The auction's top lot was a Hong Kong 1912-30 50 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 13), which realized HKD412,200 (about $53,000). The PMG Population Report lists eight Specimens and six Color Trial Specimens of this rare high-denomination note, along with a single issued example. Of all those, only one is graded higher than this example.
Other PMG-certified highlights in the auction included:
- a Hong Kong, Mercantile Bank of India 1941 5 Dollars graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine EPQ (lot 16), which realized HKD264,000 (about $34,000)
- a Hong Kong 1912-41 5 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 11), which realized HKD192,000 (about $25,000)
- a Hong Kong 1912-41 10 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 12), which realized HKD192,000 (about $25,000)
- a Hong Kong 1912-56 100 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 14), which realized HKD192,000 (about $25,000)
- a Hong Kong, Mercantile Bank of India 1937 10 Dollars graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 19), which realized HKD108,000 (about $14,000)
- a Hong Kong, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. 1916-23 5 Dollars graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 76), which realized HKD108,000 (about $14,000)
- a Hong Kong, Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China 1934 100 Dollars graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 51), which realized HKD90,000 (about $11,000)
