PMG-certified Egyptian Banknote Offered in Spink Auction

The 1899 50 Piastres is one of many rare world banknotes certified by PMG in this sale on January 27.

A rare Egyptian banknote is among more than 200 world rarities certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) in an upcoming auction. Online bidding is already underway for Spink’s World Banknotes e-Auction, which concludes January 27, 2026.

Featured among the PMG-certified banknotes in this sale is an Egypt, National Bank 1899 50 Piastres graded PMG 20 Very Fine (lot 106), with an estimate of £13,000 to £21,000 (about $18,000 to $28,000). Printed at the dawn of Egyptian paper money during a period of financial reform under British administration, the note features classical design elements alongside Arabic text. There are only 22 examples of Pick# 1b in the PMG Population Report.
