Crown Currency Offers PMG-certified European Banknote Rarities

The auction on November 10-12 presents an exceptional selection of authenticated notes spanning the rich monetary history of Europe and beyond.

A selection of more than 1,000 banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are being offered in an auction that includes some impressive rarities from Europe. Bidding is already underway in Crown Currency Live Auction 45, which concludes on November 10-12, 2025.

Among the highlights of this auction is a Netherlands, Nederlandsche Bank 1910-24 60 Gulden graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 58). Surviving examples are highly sought after by collectors for their scarcity, artistic detail and connection to the Netherlands’ evolving monetary history. This note is one of only 30 of this catalog number in the PMG Population Report, which contains only 70 total examples of this entire seldom-seen denomination.

Other PMG-certified banknotes in this auction include:

  • three examples of European Union / Austria 2002 500 Euros graded PMG 65 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ, offered in separate lots (lot 90, 392 and 1318)
  • a Greece, Bank of Greece 1935 100 Drachmai graded PMG 68 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 606)
  • an Ireland - Republic, Central Bank 1969-75 £20 graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 777)
  • a Malaysia, Bank Negara 2017 600 Ringgit Commemorative graded PMG 69 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 916)
  • a Netherlands 1894 10 Gulden Front Proof graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 26)
  • a Netherlands, Nederlandsche Bank 1923-27 40 Gulden graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 55)
  • a Netherlands, Nederlandsche Bank 1956 1,000 Gulden graded PMG 30 Very Fine EPQ (lot 960)

The auction also features more than 150 coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®), including dozens that are “top pop” — meaning they are unsurpassed in grade in the NGC Census. Some of these include:

  • a China 2017 Silver 10 Yuan Panda graded NGC MS 70 with a First Releases designation (lot 1387)
  • a China 2018 Silver 10 Yuan Panda graded NGC MS 70 with an Early Releases designation (lot 1388)
