Mavin Offers Hundreds of Asian Rarities Certified by NGC or PMG

Mavin International's Auction 68 on October 31 includes many numismatic collectibles from Southeast Asia and elsewhere.

Rare world banknotes that are certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) are available in an upcoming auction. Focused on Southeast Asia but also including rarities from elsewhere, Mavin International Auction 68 is being held on October 31, 2025.

Among the top banknotes in this auction is an India ND (1930) Princely States / Hyderabad 1,000 Rupees graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 374), with an estimate of at least SGD 11,000 (about $8,600). Printed under the authority of the Hyderabad state government, the note features design elements in both English and Urdu, and intricate geometric patterns characteristic of Indo-Islamic art. High-denomination notes like this were primarily used for large commercial or governmental transactions, making surviving examples exceptionally scarce. There are 48 examples of this note in the PMG Population Report, with only a handful graded higher.

  • a Malaya / British Administration 1940 10 Dollars graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated (lot 519), with an estimate of at least SGD 6,500 (about $5,000)
  • a Malaya / British Administration 1940 25 Cents graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 534), with an estimate of at least SGD 4,200 (about $3,300)
  • a Straits Settlements / British Administration ND (1917) 25 Cents graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated (lot 1041), with an estimate of at least SGD 4,000 (about $3,100)
  • a Straits Settlements / British Administration 1930 1 Dollar graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine EPQ (lot 1043), with an estimate of at least SGD 3,200 (about $2,500)
  • a Malaya / British Administration 1941 5 Dollars graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 603), with an estimate of at least SGD 2,100 (about $1,600)
  • a Straits Settlements / British Administration 1925-29 1 Dollar graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated (lot 1042), with an estimate of at least SGD 1,900 (about $1,500)
  • a Pakistan, Government of Pakistan ND (1948) 10 Rupees graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated (lot 927), with an estimate of at least SGD 1,600 (about $1,200)
  • a Pakistan, Government of Pakistan ND (1948) 10 Rupees graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated (lot 928), with an estimate of at least SGD 1,600 (about $1,200)

Among the coins offered is a Penang 1810 1/2 Cent from the Sinnathuray Collection graded NGC MS 65 BN (lot 1336), with an estimate of at least SGD 4,000 (about $3,100). Today, Penang is part of western Malaysia but, at the time it was under British authority and was eventually incorporated into the Straits Settlements. This particular example is tied for the highest-graded among 59 total examples in the NGC Census.

  • a China 2025 Silver 10 Yuan Chinese Dragon - Tokyo City Edition graded NGC MS 69 with a First Day of Issue designation (lot 1447), with an estimate of at least SGD 1,900 (about $1,500)
  • a China 2025 Silver 10 Yuan Chinese Dragon - Tokyo City Edition graded NGC MS 69 with a First Day of Issue designation (lot 1448), with an estimate of at least SGD 1,900 (about $1,500)
  • a China 1991 Lunar Series 12-ounce Silver 100 Yuan Goat graded NGC PF 67 Ultra Cameo (lot 1440), with an estimate of at least SGD 1,700 (about $1,300)
  • a China YR15(1926) Dragon and Phoenix 10 Cents graded NGC AU 53 (lot 1433), with an estimate of at least SGD 1,500 (about $1,200)
  • a Straits Settlements 1916B 20 Cents graded NGC MS 65 (lot 1656), with an estimate of at least SGD 1,300 (about $1,000)
