Stack's Bowers Galleries Presents Hundreds of PMG-certified Asian Rarities

A key Chinese rarity is among more than 1,000 notes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) in a pair of auctions presented by Stack's Bowers Galleries. Bidding is already underway for the October 2025 Hong Kong (SAR) Showcase Auction - Session A - Pre 1949 Chinese Paper Money, which will be held October 17, 2025, and the October 2025 Hong Kong (SAR) Showcase Auction - Session B - People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong (SAR), Macau (SAR) & World Paper Money, which will be held October 18, 2025.
The top PMG-certified lot is a China / People's Republic 1951 500 Yuan graded PMG 45 Choice Extremely Fine (Session B, lot 31067), which has an estimate of $60,000 to $85,000. One of the key issues from the first series of Renminbi, this banknote features a picturesque view of Zhan De Cheng in Ili, Xinjiang Province, in the relatively sparsely populated western part of China. Due to a limited print run and a short-lived circulation of less than four years; this is one of the rarer notes of the series. The PMG Population Report contains only 48 examples of this particular catalog number.

- a Hong Kong, Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China 1931-34 50 Dollars graded PMG 30 Very Fine (Session B, lot 31114), which has an estimate of $30,000 to $50,000
- a China / People's Republic 1951 10,000 Yuan graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated (Session B, lot 31069), which has an estimate of $30,000 to $50,000
- a China / People's Republic 1953 10 Yuan graded PMG 30 Very Fine EPQ (Session B, lot 31075), which has an estimate of $30,000 to $50,000
- a Hong Kong, Mercantile Bank of India, Limited 1941 50 Dollars graded PMG 30 Very Fine (Session B, lot 31276), which has an estimate of $30,000 to $40,000
- a Hong Kong ND; 1911-22 5 Dollars Color Trial Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (Session B, lot 31100), which has an estimate of $25,000 to $40,000
- a China, Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation 1897 10 Mexican Dollars graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine (Session A, lot 30320), which has an estimate of $20,000 to $40,000
- a Hong Kong 1901 500 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (Session B, lot 31156), which has an estimate of $25,000 to $35,000
- a China, Chi Tung Bank ND (1937) 100 Yuan graded PMG 20 Very Fine NET (Session A, lot 30206), which has an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000
