Seldom-seen Denominations in the Spotlight in Crown Currency Sale

Vintage Netherlands rarities in seldom-seen denominations that are certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are in the spotlight in an ongoing Crown Currency auction. They are among more than 1,200 PMG-certified world banknotes being offered in Crown Currency’s Live Auction 43, which is set to end on September 15, 2025.

Two of the top PMG-certified lots in the auction are a Netherlands, Nederlandsche Bank 1910-24 60 Gulden graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 76) and Netherlands, Nederlandsche Bank 1889-1922 40 Gulden graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 73). These notes are from the seldom-seen denominations of 40 Gulden and 60 Gulden, each of which is represented by fewer than 100 examples across all catalog numbers in the PMG Population Report, including Proofs and Specimens. Banknotes are typically issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100, a pattern followed by the US Dollar and the Euro, which replaced Netherlands' Guilder in 2002.
