PMG Registry Featured Set: Singapore

Posted on 8/19/2025

This set shows the growth of Singapore into the Asian economic power that it is today.

This month, Singapore celebrated its National Day on August 9, a date marking the issuance of the Proclamation of Singapore that separated it from Malaysia 60 years ago in 1965. So this month, we're spotlighting a nearly complete Singapore set in the PMG Registry that shows the progression of its currency through the years: JE Timeless Collections' Singapore Complete collection 1967-Date.

Among the notes in this impressive set is an ND (1970) 5 Dollars graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ, whose back reflects the relatively modest wealth of the city-state at that time. In 1970, Singapore opened its first branch library, its first junior college and its first shopping mall. Its per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) that year in today's US Dollars was $926, about a hundredth of what it is today.

This 2019 20 Dollars Commemorative, which is graded a "Top Pop" PMG 70★ Gem Uncirculated EPQ, reflects Singapore's robust growth with its burgeoning skyline on the back of the note, depicted alongside a vignette showing its humble origins. This is one of nine notes in this particular PMG Registry set that earned the highest grade on the PMG Grading Scale.

JE Timeless Collections explains in the set listing that the set was put together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Singapore's independence in 1965. With images of more than 60 notes, the slideshow on the PMG Registry site is a comprehensive walk through the evolution of Singapore's currency, a highly popular area of paper money collecting. Thank you, JE Timeless Collections, for sharing this amazing set with us!
