African Rarities Certified by PMG Showcased in Money Corner Auction

Dozens of countries are represented throughout the PMG-certified world banknote offerings that are available in the late August sale.

More than 340 world banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are being offered in an upcoming auction presented by Money Corner. Bidding is already underway for their E-Auction #9, which concludes on August 23, 2025.

A top PMG-graded highlight in the auction is a Cameroun ND (1974) 10,000 Francs Specimen graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated (lot 42), with an estimate of €1,000 to €1,500 (about $1,200 to $1,750). The obverse of this high-denomination rarity features a depiction of President Ahmadou Ahidjo, who was the first president of Cameroon from 1960 to 1982 and who helped the country establish itself as an independent state. This particular note is not only the "Top Pop" but is also the only example of this catalog number in the PMG Population Report.

Another PMG-graded highlight in the auction is a Chad ND (1976) 5,000 Francs Specimen graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine (lot 65), with an estimate of €500 to €750 (about $600 to $875). Another high-denomination African rarity, this banknote features an image of a Chadian woman to the left, a depiction of a weaving loom to the right, with an intricate border design surrounding the note. This particular note is also the lone example of this catalog number in the PMG Population Report.

  • a Central African Republic ND (1980) 5,000 Francs Specimen graded PMG 20 Very Fine NET (lot 47), with an estimate of €500 to €750 (about $600 to $875)
  • a Chad ND (1974) 500 Francs Specimen graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated (lot 64), with an estimate of €350 to €500 (about $400 to $600)
  • a French Equatorial Africa ND (1957) 1,000 Francs Specimen graded PMG 30 Very Fine NET (lot 119), with an estimate of €300 to €500 (about $350 to $600)
  • a Gabon ND (1984) 5,000 Francs Specimen graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 120), with an estimate of €300 to €500 (about $350 to $600)
  • a Central African States / Central African Republic 1999 2,000 Francs graded PMG 70 Gem Uncirculated EPQ★ (lot 50), with an estimate of €300 to €500 (about $350 to $600)
