Rare Netherlands Proofs Certified by PMG Lead Ongoing Crown Currency Sale

The vintage notes are among more than 1,300 PMG-certified banknotes in the sale.

PMG-certified Netherlands Proofs from the early 1900s are turning heads in an ongoing Crown Currency auction. They are among more than 1,300 PMG-certified world banknotes being offered in Crown Currency’s Live Auction 42, which is set to end on August 7, 2025.

Two of the top highlights in the sale are a Netherlands, Silver note 1914 1 Gulden Proof graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated (lot 905) and a Netherlands, Silver Note 1915 2 1/2 Gulden Proof graded PMG 62 Circulated (lot 932). Proofs, which are prototypes of notes created by the printing company are typically scarce, and these two notes are the only examples of their kind recorded in the PMG Population Report.

Additionally, three other PMG-certified Netherlands Proof and Progressive Proof notes from the 1910s are being offered in the sale, including:

  • a Netherlands, Silver Note 1915 2 1/2 Gulden Progressive Proof graded PMG 62 Uncirculated (lot 933)
  • a Netherlands, Silver Note 1914 5 Gulden Proof graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated (lot 949)
  • a Netherlands, Silver Note ND (1914) 5 Gulden Progressive Proof graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 950)

  • a Fiji, Reserve Bank 2000 2,000 Dollars Commemorative graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 463)
  • a Guinea – Bissau, Banco Central 1990 50 Pesos graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 627)
  • a Kazakhstan, National Bank 1993 10 Tengé graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 748)
  • a Netherlands, Nederlandsche Bank 1953 10 Gulden graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 979)
  • a Netherlands, Nederlandsche Bank 1904-21 25 Gulden graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 1002)
  • a Romania, Banca Nationala 1941-45 1,000 Lei graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1158)
  • a Slovenia, Banka Slovenije 1992 10 Tolarjev Specimen graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1252)
  • a Zimbabwe, Reserve Bank 2006 50,000 Dollars Emergency Issue graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1431)

Meanwhile, dozens of NGC-certified coins are also being offered in the sale, including a Japan S9(1934) Sen graded NGC MS 66 RB (lot 62). Coins of the 1 Sen denomination were introduced in the 1870s and discontinued after World War II ended in 1945. This example is one of the highest graded in the NGC Census, with none graded higher.

  • a US 2008-W $25 Gold Eagle graded NGC MS 70 (lot 507)
