Monetarium Offers High-Denomination Singapore Rarity and Other PMG-certified Notes

An auction on December 7 includes high-grade notes from the private collection of Mr. Yong Fu Mun.

A stunning private collection of high-quality banknotes from Singapore, Malaysia and elsewhere, including more than 600 that are certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®), is being offered in an upcoming sale. Bidding is underway for Monetarium’s auction of Mr. Yong Fu Mun’s Collection on December 7, 2024.

Among the highlights of this auction is a Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency ND (1973) 10,000 Dollars graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated (lot 1152), with an estimate of SGD 40,000 to SGD 46,000 (about $30,000 to $34,000). From Singapore’s inaugural Orchid Series of paper money, this note is an example of that country’s highest denomination. There are 105 examples of this note in the PMG Population Report, and the grade of the one in this sale is above average. The lofty $10,000 denomination was carried over to subsequent series of paper money but is no longer produced.

  • a Singapore ND (1987) 10,000 Dollars Replacement / Star graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated (lot 1288), with an estimate of SGD 15,000 to SGD 18,000 (about $11,000 to $13,000)
  • a Singapore ND (1987) 10,000 Dollars Replacement / Star graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine (lot 1287), with an estimate of SGD 13,000 to SGD 15,000 (about $9,700 to $11,000)
  • a Singapore, Monetary Authority ND (2015) 1,000 Dollars Uncut Sheet of Three graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1362), with an estimate of SGD 12,000 to SGD 15,000 (about $8,900 to $11,000)
  • a Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency ND (1999) 10,000 Dollars graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1369), with an estimate of SGD 12,000 to SGD 15,000 (about $8,900 to $11,000)
  • a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1976-81) 1,000 Ringgit graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1635), with an estimate of SGD 12,000 to SGD 15,000 (about $8,900 to $11,000)
  • a group of five Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency ND (1972) $500 with consecutive serial numbers, each graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 1145), with an estimate of SGD 10,000 to SGD 12,000 (about $7,400 to $8,900)
  • a group of six Singapore ND (1999) Commemorative 2 Dollars through 1,000 Dollars graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ to PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1379), with an estimate of SGD 8,000 to SGD 10,000 (about $5,900 to $7,400)
