More than 100 PMG-certified Persian Banknotes Offered in Noonans Sale

More than a hundred vintage Persian banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®), including several expected to realize five figures, are available in an upcoming auction. Bidding is already underway in the Noonans auction of The Mount Damavand Collection of Persian Banknotes, which will be held on October 3, 2024.
The Mount Damavand Collection is a remarkable assembly of Persian banknotes, named after Iran's tallest peak, which holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. Featuring designs from the iconic first and second issues of the Imperial Bank of Persia, these notes were printed by renowned firms like Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. and Waterlow & Sons. They not only showcase exceptional craftsmanship but also include Proofs and Specimens, making this collection a true gem for banknote collectors.
The top highlight is a Kingdom of Persia, Imperial Bank 1924-32 100 Tomans graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 120) with an estimate of £30,000 to £38,000 (about $40,000 to $51,000). This note is a highly sought-after collectible, renowned for its intricate design and historical significance. Featuring stunning engravings that reflect Persian artistry, this note showcases the transition of Iran's currency during a pivotal time in its history. This is one of only five examples of this note in the PMG Population Report, and the only one of those that is from a branch (Tabriz).
