The Yuan Dynasty (1271–-1368) was established by Kublai Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan. It was part of the vast Mongol Empire, and its capital was located in present-day Beijing. The Yuan Dynasty is recognized for its significant contributions to Chinese culture, including advancements in the arts, science and technology, as well as the promotion of trade along the Silk Road. Despite these achievements, internal strife, economic difficulties and natural disasters weakened the dynasty, leading to its eventual replacement by the Ming Dynasty.
