A Straits Settlements rarity is among the highlights certified by PMG in the April 20 auction.

Paper money collectors who are focused on Asia will want to watch Monetarium Auction 36 on April 20, 2024. Bidding is already underway for more than 500 lots certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®).

The highlight of the auction is a Straits Settlements / British Administration 1925 50 Dollars graded PMG 30 Very Fine EPQ (lot 1289) with an estimate of SGD90,000 to SGD100,000 (about $67,000 to $75,000). A truly rare find, this vintage banknote hails from the Straits Settlements and features a captivating vignette of a prowling tiger. These banknotes were heavily circulated alongside silver coins because of their convertibility. This note has an above-average grade among the mere 47 examples of this catalog number in the PMG Population Report.
