PMG-certified Chinese Banknotes Offered in Stack’s Bowers Hong Kong Auction

Posted on 3/18/2024

More than 1,400 Chinese and other world banknotes graded by PMG are offered in the sessions of an April sale.

An exciting group of more than 1,400 Chinese and other world banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) is open for bidding as part of Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ Hong Kong Auction. The three major paper money sessions of the auction are: The Peter She of New York Collection of Chinese Banknotes in Session A and World Paper Money in Session B, both on April 19; and Chinese Mainland and SAR Paper Money in Session C on April 20, 2024.

Among the highlights is a Hong Kong ND (1912) 50 Dollars Color Trial Specimen graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated NET (Session C, lot 32674) with an estimate of $45,000 to $70,000. This “Gourd” 50 Dollar note takes its name from the vignette on the front depicting people by a river within a gourd-shaped frame. The dominant colors of blue on the front and brown on the back deviate significantly from issued notes, which are primarily brown on the front and green on the back.
