Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) is offering special labels and designations to celebrate the three new banknotes being released by the Bank of Japan this summer. This is the first redesign of the country's notes in almost 20 years, and it affects the three denominations most often used in circulation.

The new notes are scheduled to be released on July 3, 2024. The front of each shows an important figure from the Meiji era, the time of rapid modernization of Japan from 1868 to 1912. The corresponding special PMG labels incorporate a portrait of the person on each note.

The new ¥1,000 shows Kitasato Shibasaburō, a bacteriologist who was nominated for the inaugural Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1901. Kitasato had worked to develop a diphtheria antitoxin serum in Berlin with German physiologist Emil von Behring, who was awarded the Nobel Prize. Kitasato dedicated his life to studying infectious diseases, including a bubonic plague outbreak in Hong Kong, as well as training physicians.

The updated ¥5,000 features Umeko Tsuda, who at the age of 7 was Japan's first female exchange student. She became an advocate for greater educational opportunities for women and, in 1900, founded what today is called Tsuda University.

The new ¥10,000 highlights Shibusawa Eiichi, a businessman who helped bring economic reform to Japan. He was the founder of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, an advocate for international trade and a philanthropist who helped schools, hospitals and the Japan Red Cross.

These special labels are available to all submitters through the end of 2025.

Submission Instructions

• Submit notes under an eligible PMG grading tier.
• Indicate your desired label and/or Releases designation on the submission form. If no special label or Releases designation is indicated, the note will receive the PMG Standard Green label and description without a Releases designation.
• PMG will not accept submissions for Early Releases or First Releases after the cutoff date even if the postmark date is before the cutoff date.

The following designations are available for the Japan 2024 ¥1,000, ¥5,000 and ¥10,000 banknotes:

PMGは、新日本銀行券の期間限定スペシャル・ラベルと発行早期特別指定サービスを提供します

今年7月、日本銀行は新しいデザインの千円券、5千円券、1万円券を発行します。PMGは、この特別な出来事を記念してスペシャル・ラベルと特別指定サービスを提供します。

PMG®（Paper Money Guaranty®）は、今年の夏に実施される3券種の新しい日本銀行券の発行を記念して、スペシャル・ラベルと発行早期特別指定のサービスを提供します。この日本銀行券のデザイン刷新は、約20年ぶりの出来事で、最も使用頻度の高い現行券3種が対象となります。

新日本銀行券の発行は、2024年7月3日に予定されています。3券種の各表面には、日本の急速な近代化が行われた明治時代（1868 年～1912年）の3人の重要人物の肖像が描かれます。それぞれの券種に対応するPMGスペシャル・ラベルには、それぞれの人物の肖像写真が掲載されます。

新千円券には、1901年の第1回ノーベル生理学・医学賞最終候補者となった微生物学者、北里柴三郎が描かれます。北里はベルリンでドイツ人の医学者ベーリングとジフテリアの血清療法を開発し、ベーリングはノーベル賞を受賞しました。北里は、香港でのペスト流行をはじめとする感染症の研究に人生を捧げ、医学者の育成にも貢献しました。

新5千円券には、7歳のときに日本初の女子交換留学生の1人となった津田梅子が描かれます。津田は、日本の女子に対する教育機会拡大の推進者となり、1900年に今日の津田塾大学を設立しました。

1万円券には、日本経済の改革に貢献した実業家である渋沢栄一が描かれます。渋沢は、現在の東京商工会議所など多くの会社・経済団体の創設者となり、国際貿易を推進し、慈善家として学校、病院、日本赤十字社の設立などを支援する社会事業にも貢献しました。

これら3券種のスペシャル・ラベルは、2025年末まで提供いたします。

提出手順

• 当該紙幣の提出可能なグレーディング・ティアを選び、提出してください。
• スペシャル・ラベルおよび/またはEarly ReleasesかFirst Releasesの特別指定を希望する場合は、提出フォームにその旨を明記してください。もしその旨の明記がない場合は、新日本銀行券は通常の緑色ラベルに入れられ、特別指定の表記も付きません。
• 配送の消印が特別指定の申請締切日前だったとしても、PMGに申請締切日後に到着した紙幣は、特別指定の申請を受け付けません。

2024年発行の千円券、5千円券、1万円券の新日本銀行券は、以下の特別指定に申請可能です。
