Queen Elizabeth II Note Certified by PMG Realizes $84,000 in Heritage Sale

Early December auctions of world notes included 15 other PMG-certified rarities that realized more than $25,000.

Two recent Heritage Auctions sales featured more than 1,500 lots certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®), with 16 of them realizing prices over $25,000. The World Paper Money Signature Auction #4046 and the Queen Elizabeth II Collection World Paper Money Signature Auction — Hong Kong #4047 were held December 7-10, 2023.

The top lot in the auctions was a Canada, Banque du Canada 1935 20 Dollars – French with Serial Number 7 graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (Auction 4047, lot 22110), which realized $84,000. The banknote is famous for its inclusion of a young Elizabeth II, more than 15 years before she became queen. Members of the British Royal family adorned the 1935 Series of banknotes, including the 20 Dollars, which featured King George V's young granddaughter, Elizabeth.

  • a Thailand, Government of Siam 1933-35 20 Baht Specimen graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated (Auction 4046, lot 24400), which realized $48,000
  • a Malaya & British Borneo ND(1953) 10,000 Dollars Color Trial Specimen graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated EPQ (Auction 4047, lot 22287), which realized $48,000
  • a China, Federal Reserve Bank of China 1938 10 Dollars graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (Auction 4046, lot 24180), which realized $44,400
  • a Thailand, Government of Thailand ND (1953) Uncut Sheet of 18 20 Baht graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated EPQ (Auction 4046, lot 24402), which realized $43,200
  • a Mauritius, Government of Mauritius ND (1954) 25 Rupees graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (Auction 4047, lot 22301), which realized $31,200
  • a Rhodesia & Nyasaland / British Administration 1956-60 10 Pounds graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated EPQ (Auction 4047, lot 22344), which realized $31,200
  • a Bahamas, Monetary Authority 1968 100 Dollars graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (Auction 4047, lot 22026), which realized $28,800
  • a Southern Rhodesia / British Administration 1954 10 Pounds graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine (Auction 4047, lot 22407), which realized $28,800
  • a British Caribbean Territories 1953 100 Dollars graded PMG 20 Very Fine (Auction 4047, lot 22093), which realized $28,800
  • a Malaya & British Borneo 1953 1,000 Dollars graded PMG 30 Very Fine (Auction 4047, lot 22285), which realized $27,600
  • a Malaya & British Borneo 1953 10,000 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated (Auction 4047, lot 22288), which realized $27,600
  • a China, People’s Republic 1953 5 Yuan graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (Auction 4046, lot 24159), which realized $26,400
  • a China, Sin Chun Bank of China 1908 10 Dollars graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (Auction 4046, lot 24036), which realized $26,400
  • a Malaya & British Borneo / British Administration 1953 1,000 Dollars graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated (Auction 4047, lot 22286), which realized $23,400
