PMG-certified Banknotes and NGC-certified Coins Offered in Stack’s Bowers Auctions

Discover rare treasures in Stack’s Bowers' upcoming December auctions, featuring PMG-certified world banknotes and NGC-certified coins.

A large assortment of rare world banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and collectible coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) are now available to bidders in two Stack’s Bowers auctions: Ancient and World Coins on December 8, 2023, and Paper Money Session A on December 11, 2023.

Among the PMG-certified banknotes offered is a China 1907 Deutsch-Asiatische Bank 5 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 40273) with an estimate of $40,000 to $50,000. This exceptionally well-preserved rarity originated with the Hankow Division of the Deutsche-Asiatische Bank, founded on May 15, 1889, in Shanghai. This exclusive German bank possessed the authority to issue currency within China. The meticulously crafted specimen, a creation of Giesecke & Devrient, displays a vivid design featuring Germania wielding a spear, a detailed dragon vignette and the German eagle seal.

  • a China 1922 50 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 40276) with an estimate of $20,000 to $35,000
  • a China/Empire 1264-1341 2 Kuan - Yuan Dynasty graded PMG 12 Fine NET (lot 40001) with an estimate of $25,000 to $30,000
  • A set of six Singaporean sample notes of unknown vintage (1987), graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ, PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ, PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ and PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (Lot 40572), with an estimate of $15,000 to $25,000
  • a lot of two Malaysia Bank Negara 1000 Ringgit notes, including an ND (1976-81) Uncut Pair graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated and an ND (1968-79) Printing Remnants (lot 40555) with an estimate of $10,000 to $20,000

Among the NGC-certified coins offered is a Great Britain 2014 High Relief Gold 500 Pounds Britannia - graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo and pedigreed as one of the first 25 struck (lot 31173) with an estimate of $20,000 to $25,000. This distinguished 2014 Great Britain coin is encapsulated in an NGC Oversize Holder and has a mintage of just 75 pieces. Noteworthy for its flawless condition, the coin exhibits a blend of cameo contrast and intricate details, making it a standout in the realm of modern coinage.
