More than 1,000 PMG-certified Notes Featuring Queen Elizabeth II Offered in Heritage Auction

Posted on 11/17/2023

One of the top highlights of the December sale is a Canadian note that shows the future queen at age 7.

More than a thousand notes featuring Queen Elizabeth II that are certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are being offered in an upcoming Heritage Auctions sale. Bidding is now open online for the Queen Elizabeth II Collection World Paper Money Signature Auction — Hong Kong #4047, which is scheduled for December 8-10, 2023.

One of the top lots in the auction is a Canada, Banque du Canada 1935 20 Dollars – French with Serial Number 7 graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 22110), with an estimate of at least $50,000. The 1935 series of banknotes featured members of the British Royal family, including the 20 Dollars, which showed King George V's young granddaughter, Elizabeth. Numismatists find these notes fascinating because when they were first issued, her uncle Edward (who appears on the 5 Dollar note) and her father (who appears on the 50 Dollar note) were ahead of Elizabeth in the line of succession. Her uncle’s abdication in 1936 and her father's death in 1952 resulted in her becoming queen at age 25. Out of the 106 issued examples of the 1935 BC-10 catalog number in the PMG Population Report, only one is graded higher than this one.
