PMG Registry Featured Set: Central African States
Posted on 9/19/2023
The Central African States region is home to beautifully crafted notes that feature a wide variety of topics and a theme for each region and series. This month, we feature an eclectic, carefully crafted collection: a Central African States, 1993-Date set, found here.
PMG Registry user North of Sunset has a keen eye for these notes and has populated his set with several lovely, PMG “Top Pop” examples. The artistry of these notes is impressive, and the detailed visuals offer a glimpse into the daily lives of the residents, their traditions and places of cultural significance. Featuring realistic and expressive portraits for all 68 notes, this slideshow should not be missed.

North of Sunset describes these notes and his affinity for them best in his own words: “I’ve always been drawn to the beauty and artistry of French, French colonial, and post-colonial notes printed by the Bank of France. The use of color and eye-catching motifs make these some of the most appealing bank notes ever printed… The sheer beauty of the notes, particularly the first series, is the primary reason I started a CAS note collection. The second reason was CAS was a relatively neglected collecting area in the bank note world. For some reason there weren’t many collectors attempting to form a complete CAS type note collection. It was certainly achievable, as none of the notes are great rarities, so I decided to try. The third reason is I was intrigued by the varieties within the series. Each note, in the first two series, has a letter printed in two places on the face of the note. The letter, which acts as a country code, is specific to the individual CAS country in which the note was released...”
He continues his extensive set description with details about the CAS geographical area and about the different series of notes as well. Started back in the fall of 2022, this #1 set sits in first place with over 9,000 NGC Registry points. The set is a showpiece that has been carefully planned and artfully presented.
