Posted on 9/18/2023

A group of four Chinese banknotes with highly desirable consecutive serial numbers is expected to realize over half a million dollars in Stack's Bowers auction on October 5, 2023.

An extremely rare group of consecutive serial number vintage Chinese banknotes that are certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) highlights the upcoming Stack’s Bowers Hong Kong Auction. More than 1,000 PMG-certified rarities are being offered in in Session ASession BSession C and Session D of the auction on October 5-6, 2023.

The top paper money lot in the auction is a group of four China / People’s Republic 1953 10 Yuans with consecutive serial numbers, each graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated EPQ (Session B, lot 21057), with an estimate of $500,000 to $900,000. Vintage banknotes with consecutive serial numbers hold a special fascination for collectors. In addition, these notes are by themselves relatively scarce, and the PMG Population Report records only 36 that have the coveted Exceptional Paper Quality designation, including these four.
