PMG-certified Canadian Rarity Featuring a Young Queen Realizes Over $100,000

A Canadian banknote certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) led the way in a recent Heritage Auctions sale, realizing $132,000, far above its pre-auction estimate. The World Paper Money Signature Auction 4042 was held on March 23, 2023.
The Canada, Banque du Canada 1935 $20 - French with Serial Number 7 graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 24138) far exceeded its estimate of at least $25,000. It is the first note to feature Queen Elizabeth II, well before she acceded to the throne, making it one of the most famous Canadian banknotes ever printed. This note contains Serial Number 7. Among 100 total examples in the PMG Population Report, it stands alone with the second-highest grade.
