NGC-certified Coins and PMG-certified Notes in A. Karamitsos Sale

Coins and banknotes from Greece and elsewhere that have been certified by NGC or PMG are offered in the March 2023 auction.

Hundreds of world coins, medals and banknotes that are certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) or Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®), are being offered in an A. Karamitsos sale on March 18-19, 2023.

NGC-graded coins

Among the NGC-graded highlights in this auction is a Greece 1851 1/4 Drachmai graded NGC AU Details (lot 6096) with a starting price of 5,000 EUR (about $5,300). The coin shows a profile portrait of King Otto and includes the inscription "ΟΘΩΝ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ" (“OTHON VASSILEUS OF THE GREEKS”) on the obverse. King Otto was a Bavarian prince who ruled Greece from 1832 until 1862, when he was deposed and exiled.

  • a Greece 1828 1 Phoenix graded NGC AU 58 (lot 6017) with a starting price of 1,500 EUR (about $1,600)
  • a Greece 1967 (1970) Gold 100 Drachmai - 1967Revolution graded NGC MS 67 (lot 6275) with a starting price of 1,500 EUR (about $1,600)
  • an Austria 1781 Gold Ducat graded NGC AU Details (lot 6990) with a starting price of 1,300 EUR (about $1,400)
  • a Greece 1845 Lepton graded NGC MS 61 BN (lot 6083) with a starting price of 1,000 EUR (about $1,050)
  • a Russia 1911 EB 10 Roubles graded NGC 63 (lot 7229) with a starting price of 800 EUR (about $850)
  • a Greece 1828 5 Lepta graded NGC MS 62 BN (lot 6008) with a starting price of 700 EUR (about $700)

PMG-graded notes

Topping the list of PMG-certified notes is this Greece, Bank of Greece 1926 25 Drachmai graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 6668) with a starting price of 1,400 EUR (about $1,500). This note has a red overprint that reads "ΤΡΑΠΕΖΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ" (“Bank of Greece”). The front of the note features a portrait of banker Georgios Stavros, who was one of the founders and first governors of the National Bank of Greece.
