Heritage Offers PMG-certified Uncut Sheet of Six Serial Number 1 Notes

Heritage Auctions is offering dozens of Serial Number 1 notes graded by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) in the months ahead. They include an exciting uncut sheet of six National Bank Notes in the CSNS Currency Auction, being presented May 3-5, 2023.

The Chamberlain, South Dakota Uncut Sheet of Six 1929 $10 Type 1 National Bank Notes graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated EPQ includes serial numbers A0000001A, B0000001A, C0000001A, D0000001A, E0000001A and F0000001A. They came from the First National Bank & Trust Company of Chamberlain, which issued notes for only a few years in the 1930s. With a population of about 2,500, Chamberlain lies in the south-central part of South Dakota, near the intersection of Interstate 90 and the Missouri River.

National Bank Notes were issued by banks across the country, from the Civil War in the 1860s until the Great Depression in the 1930s. Because the city name is included on them, they are sometimes called "hometown notes." Other Serial Number 1 National Bank Notes in this auction include:

• a Shakopee, Minnesota 1929 Type 1 $10 graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine
• a Wampum, Pennsylvania 1929 Type 1 $10 graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated

Heritage Auctions is also offering over 40 world notes with Serial Number 1 in the Ibrahim Salem Collection of World Paper Money Signature Auction on May 9-10. They include notes from Bermuda, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, Ireland and Northern Ireland.
