NGC- and PMG-certified Rarities in A. Karamitsos October Auction

A large offering of Greek coins and banknotes certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) and Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are available in the A. Karamitsos Auction 988 Part A and Part B on October 21-23, 2022.
The top NGC-certified coin in this sale is a Greece 1882A 10 Lepta graded NGC MS 67 RB (Part A, lot 6107) with a starting price of € 5,500 (about $5,500). This coin is struck in copper, with an image of King George I and the inscription "ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α! ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ" (“George! King of the Greeks”) on the obverse. George I was originally a Danish prince, born in Copenhagen. He was 17 years old in 1863 when he was elected King of Greece by the Greek National Assembly, which deposed the previous King Otto. His reign lasted nearly 50 years, until his assassination in 1913.

The top PMG-certified note in this auction is a Kingdom of Greece, Ministry of Finance 1918 5 Drachmai graded PMG Choice Fine 15 (Part A, lot 6647) with a starting price of € 700 (about $700). This unissued banknote features an image of Athena at left on the front. There are a mere 12 examples recorded in the PMG Population Report.
