MA-Shops Offers Ukraine Currency

Posted on 7/5/2022

In light of recent events, the online marketplace presents a select inventory of Ukrainian currency and ways to provide relief to the country.

Ukraine is the second-largest country in Europe by land mass, with an estimated population of 44 million. The invasion and horrific warring in Ukraine have forced families to seek refuge in neighboring countries, with more than 6 million people having now crossed the borders. With the world’s attention focused on this devastation, collectors have shown increased interest in coinage from Ukraine.

A selection of Ukrainian items are listed on MA-Shops.

Ukraine 100 Karbovantsiv

The obverse of the Ukraine 100 Karbovantsiv features the sculpture in honor of the founding of the city of Kyiv, which commemorated the 1,500th anniversary of the city of Kyiv in 1982. It shows founding Viking brothers Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv with sister Libyd in the bow of the boat at the left. The reverse shows the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Kyiv, a historical, architectural and artistic treasure dating to the first half of the 11th century that is famous worldwide. This colorful banknote is orange on a lilac and ochre underprint.

Ukraine 2014 Gold 10 Hryven

One of the gold coins offered is a commemorative issue featuring Archangel Michael: a Ukraine 2014 Gold 10 Hryven. On the obverse, there is a small coat of arms of Ukraine with the semicircular inscription of the National Bank of Ukraine. The coin’s center, within the octagonal cartouche, is a shield with the emblem of the National Bank of Ukraine, with allegorical figures of griffins with the hryvnia placed between them.

This emblem symbolizes the safeguarding and augmentation of the country's gold reserves. Also indicated are the coin’s face value, issue year, indications of the metal and coin weight in fineness. The reverse depicts the Archangel Michael and has a circular inscription that translates to: “For us and souls of righteous men, and Archangel Michael's strength.” It is offered at $1,345 USD.

MA-Shops’ staff is volunteering their time and resources in aiding and tutoring Ukrainian refugees. President Petra Schwiening teaches Dutch to a group of Ukrainian refugees weekly. According to Mrs. Schwiening, “There is great suffering by those displaced by the war. They have been through so much and had to leave everything behind. Please consider how you can help and remember those affected by the war in your prayers.”
