Rare PMG-certified Vintage Notes from Chinese Bank Offered by Spink

Dozens of rare banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®), including several rare ones from Pei-Yang Tientsin Bank, are being offered in a Spink sale. Bidding is already underway for CSS88: A Superb Group of Chinese Numismatics, which will be held on June 25, 2022.
The top paper money lot in the sale is a China, Pei-Yang Tientsin Bank ND (circa 1910) 100 Dollars graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated (lot 1043). The front of the note features facing dragons, with vignettes of a bank building and Li Hong Zhang, a well-regarded military leader and diplomat who died in 1901. It has an estimate of HK$650,000 to HK$1,300,000 (about $82,800 to $165,600 USD).

Also in the spotlight is a smaller denomination note from the same bank with a similar design: a China, Pei-Yang Tientsin Bank ND (circa 1910) 50 Dollars graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated (lot 1042). This note has an estimate of HK$600,000 to HK$1,200,000 (about $76,400 to $152,900 USD). Both notes are the sole example for their catalog number in the PMG Population Report.

- a China, Ch'ing Dynasty 1857 100,000 Cash graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 1016), with an estimate of HK$200,000 to HK$400,000 (about $25,500 to $51,000 USD)

- a China, Deutsch-Asiatische Bank 1907 10 Dollars graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 1055), with an estimate of HK$120,000 to HK$200,000 (about $15,300 to $25,500 USD)
- a China, Ming Dynasty 1368-1399 1 Kuan graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated (lot 1002), with an estimate of HK$70,000 to HK$150,000 (about $8,900 to $19,100 USD)
- a China, Imperial Bank of China 1898 5 Taels graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated (lot 1022), with an estimate of HK$80,000 to HK$150,000 (about $10,200 to $19,100 USD)
- a China, Pei-yang Tientsin Bank ND (circa 1910) 3 Dollars graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1041), with an estimate of HK$80,000 to HK$150,000 (about $10,200 to $19,100 USD)
