World Banknote Auctions Offers Over 500 PMG-certified Notes in Upcoming Sale

Top banknotes in the May auction include PMG-graded rarities from former British protectorates in the Middle East.

Mideast rarities are among over 500 world banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) that are being offered in an upcoming World Banknote Auctions sale. Online bidding is underway for Live Sale 26, which concludes May 26, 2022.

The top lot is a Qatar & Dubai, Currency Board ND (ca. 1960) 25 Riyals graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine (lot 26450), with an estimate of $30,000 to $40,000. The Qatar and Dubai Currency Board existed in the 1960s and early 1970s as the two Persian Gulf states transitioned from being part of a British protectorate to independence.

  • a Bahamas, Government of the Bahamas 1965 50 Dollars graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 26021), with an estimate of $4,000 to $5,000
  • a New Zealand, Union Bank of Australia 1923 10/- Shillings graded PMG 45 Choice Extremely Fine (lot 26414), with an estimate of $3,000 to $4,000
  • a Philippines ND (1949) 500 Pesos graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated (lot 26439), with an estimate of $3,000 to $4,000
  • a Palestine, Currency Board 1939 Pound graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated (lot 26428), with an estimate of $2,000 to $3,000
  • an Angola, Banco Nacional Ultramarino 1909 2,500 Reis graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine (lot 26007), with an estimate of $2,000 to $3,000
