PMG Registry Featured Set: Lebanese Banknotes

This month, we feature a set by a collector who made quite a bold entrance into the PMG Registry competition in January 2022. With his extensive collection of Lebanese notes, Hassan S. Bazzi presents the most impressive Lebanon set to date in the PMG Registry! He has rocketed past the other sets and currently sits comfortably in first place. Climbing to the top is no easy feat, to be sure. This collector sets the bar for the other participants in this set category. Hassan has compiled an astounding 128 notes thus far and sits at 80% set completion. His dedication to this series is obvious in his detailed comments and images of all 128 notes! Boasting many Top Pops, this set includes examples of the elusive PMG 70★ Gem Uncirculated EPQ. His slideshow is a colorful, comprehensive walk through the history of Lebanese currency. It is definitely worth viewing here.

There are also comments for every note; some are descriptive, and some offer a historical perspective; for example, “A quadruplet of the 1939 5 livres printed in London during WWII and marked with different geometric shapes to allow authorities to cancel them if the enemy got hold of the notes.”

Hassan is currently on top with not only this set, but also with two other Lebanon sets. There are 17 participants in the most popular Lebanon set types. The next few months offer plenty of opportunity for other participants to rise to the challenge and expand their sets. It will be exciting to watch as we get closer to the PMG Registry Awards!
